HCA International will effectively manage HAI through actions associated with ICNet

This innovative hospital group will become part of the 1000 hospitals globally who can expect to see a positive reduction of HAIs at its hospitals through the installation of ICNet™. Through integrating this intelligent web-based surveillance system, the group will identify issues quickly and reliably which in turn improves patient safety, saves time on administration activities, and allows the teams to focus on delivering excellent patient care rather than fighting preventable infections.
At HCA International, the ICNet infection surveillance system brings together all of the patient’s microbiology and surgery data with patient demographics and ward status, linking key information into one real-time system which is required for proactive infection prevention activities. The software also exports key advice to HCA’s electronic patient record system, helping to engage all Clinicians in the hospital network in the role of infection prevention. ICNet can be accessed by the Infection Control practitioners in any ward, in any hospital, at any time. The system allows flexibility for the individual, as well as analysis of individual hospitals and the group as a whole.
ICNet will help healthcare workers understand what is happening in each hospital for all HAI including surgical site surveillance. They will be able to monitor trends, alert organisms and assist with potential outbreaks. The alerts received through the system have helped organisations around the world control potential outbreaks, saving time, and of course enhancing patients' quality of life. Since using ICNet organisations have seen a reduction in HAI rates, which is quite significant particularly when considering the antibiotic resistant organisms that are emerging.

According to Patrick Beyer, Chief Executive Officer at ICNet, “HCA International is leading the way by providing a proactive infection prevention solution in a cost-effective manner, making its hospitals the safest possible environments for patients. Not only does this surveillance and reporting system assist with reducing the likelihood of infection, it also ensures that patients with infections receive the correct care and treatment at the right time”.
